Over the knee boots-can you rock it?

Over-the-knee boots by Loewe, Hermes, Hussein Chalayan, and Louis Vuitton (in photo)

Long boots are really warm and cozy. Really long over knee boots are slightly hard to style? Maybe not.
Focus on a pretty top and skinny tights/pants to tuck into them. Let your legs do the taking this winter/fall while being warm.

This boot trend adds a bit of rock glam to your wardrobe. That will last till the boots fall apart.
Soft fabrics and leathers make really long boots able to bend at knee and comfortable to walk in. You'd think the material would damage quickly where limbs bend. Most likely they are double thick there and supported for amount of wear.

Here are how some celebs wear these over knee boots:
Taylor Momsen

Hillary Duff

Jessica Alba
Emma Stone

Thrift shopping tips

Thrift shopping tips:

Thrift shopping is great for getting a bargain. Here are some tips to help you make the most of thrift shopping and looking great.

1-Make lists
List what you need to buy so you narrow your search and don't over spend.

2-Buy what you love
If you fall in love with a piece think how much use the item will give you. Putting it back can be risky as it can be sold to another. Remember it could be returned later.

3-Buy what looks good on you
Items look different on hanger than on you. So, try before you buy. Get a friends opinion or ask someone in the shop for a friendly opinion. (best not a shop worker as they just want a sale).

4-Shop Often
Different stock is put out regularly. One day you might find nothing and next week you find 3 pretty outfits. Consider thrift shopping as a fashion treasure hunt.

5-Hoarding?
Consider how the item will take up room in your home. Is there space for another [insert item here].
Do you already have 5 similar to what you are thinking of buying? Maybe swap with friends and family or sell items to make room for this new purchase.

6-Be prepared
Many stores only except cash. Look in hidden places in store like at the back or high up...never know what gem you'll find. Check for sales regularly. Also when trying on lots of clothes, wear something easy to put on and take off. A slip on dress for example with ballet flats and no fiddly buttons and belts or laces.

7-Customize
You might see a blue plain dress you think gives you great figure but it's not exciting so add some bows or buttons (some personality to it). Make clothing shorter and use cut of fabric for matching bag or headband. Many other ways...some vintage clothes have cute patterns on so you can cut the fabric to turn into other items or for other projects. DIY your finds.

8-Location
Google where shops and markets that sell thrift style items are in your area. Look at car boot sales, markets and stores selling second hand or vintage items (even some antique shops).
Not just look in highstreet or mall but, in quirky hidden away places. OR TRY A CHARITY SHOP.

9-If in doubt
If you are unsure if you wish to buy it then try it on if it's clothing or try to picture what you'd use it for and how many times you'd use it.
Try to picture the full outfit the new clothing will go with. Or imagine how the furniture will fit the room it will go in.

9-Check quality
Turn items inside out to see if they will last or are fraying for example. Furniture, you should check all draws and hinges to see if it is good condition.
Look at items from all angles before you buy it.

10-Haggle
If you're in a market or charity shop or buying a lot of items try to get lower price by using your charm and haggling.

Retro 1950s swimwear

I know it's not really swimming season but, one can dream and always go to indoor pool.
Anyway I'm here to talk about the oh so nautical retro high rise bathing suit. They are beautiful 1950s trend that is hotting up today. They have a fun mix and match quality about them. Plus the often polkadot, stripe and floral prints are very nautical. Great for boat trips/cruises.

You can find loads at modcloth.com, Boohoo.com, asos.com and every typical vintage store.
This trend came in big 2012 but is still hot today.Rock a bikini with a slimming high waist and maybe some beautiful button or bow details.

Buttons on the thigh draw the eye up, making legs longer and bodies thinner and more hot.
Pair with large sunhats and bold sunglasses, wedge sandals or flipflops for a beach vibe. Basically check out the images for ideas.

Here are some people (models) wearing this trend:

Pixie Perfect!

Hey everyone, it's Khaki here! How are you today? Anyway, I am posting on behalf of my fabulous Pixie Cut I got done way back in June! I have been thinking about posting this for forever and finally felt the need to do it now. So, yeah...

Okay, first of all, there are many excuses people give as to why they shouldn't get a Pixie Cut. Sad, but so true. I am simply going to give you people an example and explain some things about the excuse.

'The Pixie Cut' wont look good on me.'  This is the number one thing a person says when they are thinking about getting a Pixie Cut or not. This is like the worst excuse ever to be completely honest with you all. First off, how do you know if you never try? A Pixie Cut does take a lot of wit to get done because it is a short, short cut but there are many different styles of the cut. So, before you complain again like this, which I have actually done once before getting my Pixie Cut, note that if you have never tried, you don't know whether it looks good on you or not.

The Pixie Cut is a 'risk' worth taking! I am serious! It really opened my eyes and boosted my confidence level a whole ass tone! I fricken love my short hair and it is much more easier to manage. :) Not just those things either though, but people can see that you are not hidden as much.

Second of all, 'Dun, Dun, Dun...' There are some major misconceptions about getting a Pixie Cut. Here's a list:

People think that it is too boyish. Can we rethink that? A Pixie Cut actually is one of the most feminine hair cuts for a lady there is! Wow, beat that! :)
'Pixie Cuts are for Lesbians.' If you thought this, you are absolutely wrong. There are celebrities that are straight up straight and have a cute Pixie Cut. What the hell were you thinking? Yeah, that's right. I forgive you!

Shailene Woodley
Jennifer Lawrence
Halle Berry

Short hair doesn't grow back that fast. You would be surprised at how fast your hair grows back when it is that short. It grows back so much faster because you can see it.

Third. Lengths of Pixie Cuts! Not everyone like the Pixie Cut as short as Miley Cyrus. Some need it all a bit longer. I am going to make this easy for everyone, so pay extra close attention! (This post is already really long so just note them without seeing pictures.)

 Boy Cut Pixie Cut
 Short
 Medium Shaved (Boy Cut Med.)
 Medium
 Medium Long
 Long

This hairstyle is so very versatile that you can choose any way to style it with length.

Not only can you style your Pixie Cut with length, but with lovely accessories. :)

  Headbands.
 Scarfs/Handkerchiefs.
 Just wear some lipstick!
Sculpt with gel a certain way.

I hope you see that you can dress up a short cut such as a cute Pixie with this post. I absolutely love my Pixie Cut and I hope you have enough courage like me to get one! If you have any other questions, please comment below and we can help you! :D

The Pixie Cut is a very fresh, healthy, modern, and feminine cut that will suit anybody. Try it today so you will have the excuse later to say why you do love it! -Khaki

Scarf and trousers matching

I was watching the Commonwealth games closing ceremony. One outfit stood out to me and that was the look of the famous singer Lulu was wearing.

The whole idea of matching a scarf to trousers/pants print seems classy. It's something I've never thought to do before and it works. However, finding scarf with same print as trousers can be tricky. Lulu also wore this easier to replicate outfit:
If you can't find prints that match then try bold colours instead. The concept of scarf and trousers matching is rather novel and to me screams autumn/fall.

Here are some other people wearing the scarf-trouser match look:

Coral Coloured Weddings

Lately this summer, I have seen the colour of Coral for bridesmaids a lot in weddings. This colour doesn't always mean 'under the sea' as many may think for a theme but it just looks nice I do suppose. As I wouldn't personally choose this colour for my wedding, maybe you might like it as it is extremely popular right now. The colour of Coral in a 'dark' or 'deep' shade is what many are choosing lately. I have passed by a wedding once when traveling to see a wedding crowd in the Coral shade. Below is one wedding of people that I know that recently got married in the past month this summer. ( Sad thing is though I never attended their wedding, I just got the pictures from Facebook.)

The dresses the bridesmaids are wearing are a 'bright' but 'deep' Coral shade and look so good with the gems and sequins that are decorating the top of the gowns.
Here are some other pictures I pulled from the Internet. What do you think? Would you choose Coral for your wedding? Let us know in the comments!

This colour is so summery and is perfect for a wedding outdoors. There are many styles as you all know for bridesmaids dresses and both long or short bridesmaids dresses with this colour can look good with your style of gown. Colours do matter when you want your gown to show. This colour makes the wedding 'warm' and doesn't take too much away from the 'glow' or 'shine' of the bride. Such a happy colour for a wedding this colour is! :)

By the way, you don't have to have your wedding near a beach to wear this colour (but you probably knew that!) Just have it where you want because this colour is a magnificant shade for any place during the summer.
I hope you enjoy this post and enjoy your summer! -Khaki :)

clip on fringe/bang

Ever felt like you wanted a fringe but not permanently or you are dressing up as a character who has a fringe but you don't? I've found you a solution. Some may say it's crazy or waste of money but what you do with your hair is your business and nobody else's.

Here is how to apply these bangs/fringes:

Hope you enjoy creating wonderful looks with fake bangs.

Time for jewelry

Here is a modern bracelets that double up as a watch. They are a great accessory although watches can look cute too.
Perhaps you're at a party or posh event and you feel a watch isn't classy enough or you want to out gadget a friend.

If you want to find more about these 'Mini Projector Bangles' then visit this link: (as in how they work)

People would think you are wearing a white bangle
but actually there is another bangle under it telling you the time.
Pretty neat right?

High fashion meets high-tech in this unique concept called the Mini Projector Bangle. You’d never know from looking at it, but this wrist ornament houses a powerful high def projector and USB data storage, making it possible to project presentations directly on to any surface. Simply slide a finger over the touch sensitive bangle to move between slides or touch to turn on the LED time display. Perfect for the working woman!

To be honest I'm not sure what is so bad with wearing a watch as some can be really decorative and elegant these days. What do you think. a great invention or why bother?

A look for airplane

It's difficult to dress for flights these days, especially when you start in a country that is hot and visit somewhere colder or other way round.

This is my (Sequins) idea of what to wear:

Shoes
I would wear something really casual but still with style. No uncomfortable shoes or heels as you'd be walking lots in airport and taking them off for the security scan machine part. I'd recommend flats like converse, sneakers, boat shoes...

Jewelry
For jewelry I'd suggest nothing metal for going through metal detectors so, wooden accessories would be a nice option or even plastic could be an option. The ones in the photo are wooden colourful beads on elastic thread. They look cute too and you can make stuff yourself or find a jewelry set to fit your style.

Being comfortable
I put a denim jacket with my outfit as it's really cold where I'm going but a hoodie/sweater would be great and comfortable too. You want to be able to sit for hours on the airplane without getting annoyed by your outfit.

Different temperatures in different country
If it's hot in one country but cold in the other layering right is key. I have a floral vest top with denim jacket in my look. Think of things you can remove/add to an outfit to fit both destinations e.g. light outerwear or hats.  Plus wearing bulkier things save room in suitcase such as a jacket or large summer hat.

No belts
Any pants/trousers would  have to be able to not have a belt as you'd most likely have to have to take the belt of at airport security.
The same thing applies for males too. Great pants/trousers to wear would be those with elasticated waist or try leggings with long t-shirt or dress you can sit in for long time. e.g. a t-shirt dress or casual skater dress that's not too short. Or try jeans without belts if they stay up easily like the ones in my outfit. (They do up with a side zip and fit snug on me).

Hopefully this gives you some idea on how to dress comfortably on airplans or long journeys it would apply for taking a train abroad for example.

Close up your life

Just like these photos I took of a newspaper left on my desk you have to think of what your outfit looks like close up and far away.

What I mean is the details in an outfit like the details on a newspaper...the font, wrinkles, shapes, patterns.
Yes you have to think when putting an outfit together how the colours work together but also take into consideration, 'does the outfit look good from far away and close up'.

If you are out for the night and want to get noticed an outfit that is classy and well thought-out is better than one with too much going on and each element is lost in the busy combination. No potential new partner will get to take in your full beauty if you are lost in a combination of clothes.
A statement necklace might look pretty close up  but not from far away because of how you paired it.
Think about the little details and the far away aspect of an outfit.
Make the right impression as you walk out your door.

What to Wear on the Beach for Men

Yes, our blog is for everyone which in this case, extends to men as well! Let's begin with our first post for men's fashion! :)

Okay so, men need to know sometime what to wear to the beach too. They want to know what is in style and what makes them look trendy just as much as women do when they are headed to the beach. Men and the way they dress does matter in society. If you are a single man looking for a woman, then this is a quick guide for you. Being single and finding the right girl doesn't just begin at the 'flirting stage,' it also starts with dressing in the appropriate attire for the appropriate occasion. Even at the beach, a man needs to look their best. Even though they may look sexy with a six pack or something to that degree, they still should come looking good in clothing because not all 'skin-wear' can look attractive. If you follow what is being said here, you should understand that you do not go around all your life in your birthday suit. Sorry but unless you live in a nudist colony (which I have nothing against by the way), you should look both attractive in clothing as well as in your skin. If you forgot already, I am talking to men here but some of this stuff is the same for women. Anyway, married men should follow this too because they shouldn't be too revealing. In this sense, if you don't want attraction from other women and you are married with kids or even without, then wear clothing that doesn't say, 'stare at me...' Wear stuff that makes you comfortable yet covered up. You will want to be dressed to your best even at an event such as the beach.

Enough of the pep talk for now, let's move on...

What to Wear on the Beach

What to Wear on the Beach by kryptonitesmile featuring Oakley

Here are some really good styling options that are modern for the Summer of 2014 for men.

Many men's swim trunks today are long and are either printed or solid in colour. Some short swim trunks are in style too but one that is able to cover at least below the the new is what is being worn today. Being a woman, I personally like the look of longer swim trunks on a male. They just look more decent from my perspective. And again, you can add a 'baseball top' with your swim trunk look or a 'skater top' which looks good as well. Accessories such as glasses look amazing. They just add that beachy vibe along with your look whether you are on the beach or not. And footwear, this is important. If you are headed to the beach, you do not need to wear just sandals. Tennis shoes or manly sneakers are perfect if you pair them up just right. Shoes don't really matter actually when you are on the beach because you take them off either way usually. Just pair some footwear with your look is all I'm trying to say here!

So, I had a lot to type for you men and some women out there but there is so much to say. I forgot half the things I was going to say to you all but I forgot so you can take a deep breath and sigh of relief! LOL! I hope this helps you for the beach.

Have fun and enjoy the beach now! :D

Style finder look #5

Who said monochrome had to be boring? (Not me)

Technically it's not black and white with the daring canary yellow blazer. It would work well with a white one also. It's a very retro look that any body type can pull off. The skirt is a fabulous staple in a wardrobe/closet. This is for the simplicity of it and how you can change it up and style it for every occasion, formal, work to casual days.
Hats are becoming fashionable again from fedoras to floppy sunhats like the large black one. I often feel good in a hat and like it completes an outfit. The one in this look is very boho and summery.

Here are other hats of similar styling: (ideas of how to wear them)

From: http://callinamarie.buzznet.com/photos/summerstyle30fabulou/?id=68500840
This is a cute casual style for those who find dresses not for them. Shorts and jumper/baggy top look with dramatic shades. Looks very Vogue to me.

Find this look here: http://rachelslookbook.com/on-the-wild-side/
Another way to wear the hats is with a fun printed cotton pants. I've seen this style rock up loads for spring and summer warmer weather. A perfect look for covering up legs but, keeping cool too. These pants come in a huge variety of prints and colours and are creative looking. From leaves to zigzags etc...

Look from: https://s3cdn-lookbooknu.netdna-ssl.com/files/looks/large/2011/03/09/1130772_lookbook_spring.jpg?1368086844

This outfit is really romantic for warm weather. You can pair a floppy hat with any dress to be honest. Floral ones are just extra girly and  with spring feeling about it. Hats add a touch of glamour and sophistication. I see a great outfit for a bbq or picnic right there. You can style these hats by adding flowers and ribbon bands. Try matching the dress or part of outfit colour or fabric print... e.g. if you shorten a dress and have fabric remaining...decorate the sun hat with it.

Fashion Icon: Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is an excellent example of a 'fashionista!' She knows style very, very well and wears it all so together.

The great thing about this beautiful woman is that she makes her wardrobe just for her. Michelle takes runway fashions and makes them well, just for her!

As you can see, Michelle is a very independant and powerful woman. Not just in the world of politics but in fashion too. She engages people with her stylish up-dos and encourages the world around her to try different styles and things as well. If there is one person in the world we just look up to, it should be Michelle! She knows what she is doing and it is so grately helping every bit of our lives. Thank you Michelle for your excellent looks and for helping the world to become  a better place! We cannot thank you enough. :)
